Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is Opening Lines. They can be funny, unique, shocking, gripping, etc.

For the sake of keeping things simple, I’m just going to list the opening lines of three books I’ve read so far this year.

Here we go!

“Maddie Callahan’s newest clients seemed to have everything – youth, looks, money – which was precisely why she doubted their marriage would work.”

Exposed, by Laura Griffin

“I had never been hypnotized before. I didn’t really believe in it, to be honest. My plan was to lie there and pretend it was working, and try not to laugh.”

The Hypnotist’s Love Story, by Liane Moriarty

“Though Robin Ellacott’s twenty-five years of life had seen their moments of drama and incident, she had never before woken up in the certain knowledge that she would remember the coming day for as long as she lived.”

The Cuckoo’s Calling, by Robert Galbraith

I love when a book starts off with something witty or intriguing. If it’s making me laugh from the very first page, there’s a very good chance I’m going to continue reading it!

What are some memorable opening lines from books you’ve read? Tell me in the comments or drop a link to your Top Ten Tuesday post so I can check it out!
