This week’s topic is Do You Use Your Local Library?
I love libraries so naturally I love this topic idea too!
Do you have a local library you go to often?
Yes! I go most weekends to check out and return books, browse, and sometimes to sit for a few hours and write. It’s a gorgeous location in the desert and I love being able to go whenever I want.
Does your school/did your school have a library?
I always frequented the campus libraries when I was in school. The thing I loved most about the ones at my alma mater is there were always so many places to sit, nice desks, and tons of windows. I love libraries that are welcoming and warm and feel like home when you walk in.
What are your favorite things about libraries?
I wouldn’t even know where to begin! Public libraries are truly a book-lover’s best friend. I love that I can check out books for free, including physical and digital and audio. I’m sure you’ve noticed but books can be so expensive, especially when in digital form. My library offers receipts that show how much money you save by using the library and believe me, that does not go unnoticed.
I also love that my libraries offer free tickets to local museums. I’ve taken advantage of that more than once and gotten to see some really inspiring exhibits I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Ultimately what I love most is that I know there’s a place I can go and sit for hours to read or write in such a comforting space.
Are there certain books you borrow from your local library more or less often than others?
I tend to check out books by authors that are new to me quite a bit. This is because if I end up not liking the book or writing style, I can just return the book and not be out any money. I also check out a lot of audiobooks since I don’t have any reason to own them after listening and they are probably the most expensive digital resource out there.

I really, really want my local library to start offering museum passes! I’ve seen other libraries do it and it seems like the coolest thing!

Libraries are such a great resource. I remember my mum taking me to the library when I was a kid, we couldn’t afford to buy many books but I never minded because we were always borrowing books from the library. Whenever I move, one of the first things I do is find the nearest library and join it. 😊
