Going, Going, Ganache (Cupcake Bakery Mystery #5) by Jenn McKinlay

Synopsis

“After a cupcake-flinging fiasco at a photo shoot for a local magazine, Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura agree to make amends by hosting a weeklong corporate boot camp at Fairy Tale Cupcakes. The idea is the brainchild of Ian Hannigan, new owner of Southwest Style, a lifestyle magazine that chronicles the lives of Scottsdale’s rich and famous. He’s assigned his staff to a team-building week of making cupcakes for charity. It’s clear that the staff would rather be doing just about anything other than frosting baked goods. But when the magazine’s features director is found murdered outside the bakery, Mel and Angie have a new team-building exercise – find the killer before their business goes AWOL.”

Going, Going, Ganache is book five in the Cupcake Bakery Mystery series. As with the previous books, this was another funny, smart, cozy mystery with plenty of surprising moments.

Mel and Angie are hosting a corporate team-building workshop when a member of the team is found murdered outside the bakery. Mel is suspicious of most of the staff who have all been fighting with one another since the moment Mel and Angie met them.

Mel takes it upon herself to figure out who may have been at odds with the victim, and why, because she is once again at the center of the crime with her bakery being backdrop of the investigation.

I was really surprised by Tate in this book, and would not have expected him to make the considerable life changes that he did. The extreme measures he takes are admirable and I have to say, I can’t wait to see what is in store for him in later books.

Mel, on the other hand, has some own changes in her personal life regarding her fiancé Joe and someone else who may be stepping into the picture. I am still undecided how I feel about all of this. The ending was such a cliffhanger, I’m pretty sure I gasped aloud because I have no idea what will happen next. Not only that, I still don’t know how I feel about the impending love triangle.

I can’t wait to read the next book, Sugar and Iced, soon!
