The Evolution of Book Blogging

This week’s topic is The Evolution of Book Blogging.

How long have you been blogging, and how has the book blogging community changed since you started? Do you think it’s been a positive or negative change?

I have been blogging since 2015, and specifically book blogging since 2018. The biggest change I have noticed in that time is that book blogging has taken over Instagram (also known as Bookstagram) and evolved into video blogging on YouTube, and more recently, BookTok. I think this has been a positive change for book bloggers who want to widen their audiences.

What do you think the future of blogging will be?

I can see book blogging continuing to evolve with new media as new platforms are created. I think there will always be places like StoryGraph for readers to write traditional reviews, too.

Would you want to keep blogging even if blogging becomes very “old school” and isn’t really done anymore?

Absolutely. I love to have a place to write book reviews and have bookish discussions. I was doing this even when I didn’t have an audience (ha) and would continue to even if no one uses WordPress anymore, though I don’t think that’s going to happen any time soon.
