Book Titles That Made Me Want to Read the Book

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is Book Title or Covers that Made Me Want to Read/Buy the Book.

I decided to go with book titles instead of covers, because those are more likely to pique my interest.

Here are a few book titles that did just that, in no particular order…

1. The Almost Legendary Morris Sisters: A True Story of Family Fiction by Julie Klam
2. What to Read and Why by Francine Prose
3. From Different Shores: Perspectives on Race and Ethnicity in America by Ronald Takaki
4. The Library: A Catalogue of Wonders by Stuart Kells
5. Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void by Mary Roach
6. The Time Traveller’s Guide to Medieval England: A Handbook for Visitors to the Fourteenth Century by Ian Mortimer
7. Walk Through Walls: A Memoir by Marina Abramovic
8. The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu and Their Race to Save the World’s Most Precious Manuscripts by Joshua Hammer
9. Merchants of Culture: The Publishing Business in the Twenty-First Century by John Brookshire Thompson
10. The Story of Life in 25 Fossils: Tails of Intrepid Fossil Hunters and the Wonders of Evolution by Donald R. Prothero

As you may have guessed, all of these titles come from nonfiction books! Some I read during undergrad or graduate school, others I came across while browsing at the library.

I love when a nonfiction writer is passionate about their subject, to the point that it is obvious even from the title that you’re in for a good read. That if nothing else will make me interested in reading the book.
