Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This week’s topic is Resolutions/Hopes for 2021.
In previous posts I discussed some of my reading goals for this year and the reading challenges I am participating in. In addition to those, here are some other bookish resolutions I’ve come up with, in no particular order…
- Meet Goodreads Goal. This year, it’s 50 books.
- Complete Reading Challenges. I’m leaving some wiggle room with this one, since I don’t anticipate being able to complete every prompt of the PopSugar Challenge or to read a book set in every state for the 50 States Book Challenge. However many I can complete will be okay with me.
- Read the Books I Own. I suspect this will be on many people’s lists this week! In general, I always have this idea that I will read the books I own before buying new books. Does it happen? Sometimes! This year I will make more of an effort to stick to it.
- Focus On Genres I Like. Over the last few years I have tried to diversify my reading in terms of reading across genres. I think this is important for all readers to do. This year however, I’m giving myself permission to stick to the genres I enjoy the most, mainly mystery, thriller, and suspense.
- Read More Non-Fiction. This one should be doable since I have a handful of non-fiction books on my shelf now that I am hoping to get to in the first half of the year.
If I came up with any other bookish resolutions I might not meet them all, so I’m sticking with just a handful to make it more realistic.
Reading the books you already own is a great goal. I need to work on that, too.

Reading books you own is on SO MANY lists this week. *raises hand* I’m definitely guilty. Turns out, buying books is super easy and fun, and reading books is … significantly more challenging? Who knew? xD I think it’s a really good goal, though haha.
I’ve seen read more non-fiction on several people’s, too, and it wasn’t on mine, but that’s something I’ve really struggled with, so maybe it should be? Hmmm. Best of luck with your goals!
Here’s my TTT post.

Great goals – good luck!! One of my goals is to top 100 books (which is my typical GoodReads goal) this coming year!

That was my goal last year and while I did meet it, I felt super stressed about it! I am pretty sure I will do more than 50 books this year but I wanted a low bar just in case, haha 🙂

I’m trying to focus on reading more of the genres I like as well- for me, it’s fantasy!

Great list! I need to work on getting my TBR down (theres definitely some that’s been there for more than two year! Oops.) and good luck with focusing on genres you like! I’d already done this prompt in another post so I had a go at my top ten favourite albums lol. You seem like you’d have good taste in music, what are yours? Here are mine 😊 https://hundredsandthousandsofbooks.blog/2021/01/12/ttt-12-1-top-ten-albums/

Definitely committing to reading what I own this year, and I’d like to read at least five non fiction books this year but I’m trying not to get too hung up about numbers or challenges. X

I originally was going to read one non-fiction book each month but I immediately zapped that. As soon as the number is there it makes me anxious! I hope you find some great reads this year 🙂

Great set of resolutions – I am simultaneously reading the books I already own whilst stockpiling new ones!! It’s good to see that you’re allowing yourself guilt free forays into genres you love: and I do love a good detective mystery – have you read anything by Tana French? She is so good! These are my bookish New Year Resolutions, and some that I know I could not achieve!

She’s on my list! I keep almost getting her books and then getting distracted by others. I really want to read one of her books soon though! 🙂

I need to read more non-fiction too. I usually don’t read non-fiction except for memoirs but I did recently read a few books in the genre that surprised me.

Sounds like you have some great reading planned for 2021! I am also guilty of not reading the books I own; I get so distracted by books I see other people reading and new releases!

I love your goals. I think it is important to allow ourselves to read just for the fun of it! I hope you can stop by:
