Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is Books I Bought/Borrowed Because…

Reasons could range from nice covers, to friend recommendations, to author blurbs on the cover. I’m doing Books I Borrowed Because I Like the Cover.

There are a ton of books that fall into this category for me, but here’s ten to start…

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo
Monster, She Wrote: The Women Who Pioneered Horror and Speculative Fiction by Lisa Kroger
The Way You Make Me Feel by Maurene Goo
Desperate Girls by Laura Griffin
Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
Bibliophile: An Illustrated Miscellany by Jane Mount
I’m Not Dying With You Tonight by Kimberly Jones and Gilly Segal
Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Turning Point by Danielle Steel
A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

Full disclosure: I didn’t like all of these books! But their covers drew me in for the following reasons: striking graphics, bold colors, and interesting titles.

Interestingly, I’ve found that some of my favorite books do not share these qualities when it comes to their covers.

What are some reasons you bought or borrowed certain books? Tell me in the comments or drop a link to your Top Ten Tuesday post so I can check it out!

  1. Gods of Jade and Shadow is one of those that I was immediately drawn to because that cover is so stunning–and the book was great, too! A Study in Charlotte and Monster, She Wrote have also really stood out to me, and the cover for Desperate Girls is so compelling, I love the blue!
