I hopped on the Pretty Little Liars train nine years ago when the show premiered. It’s a gripping story to say the least, and the show really pulls you into the plot, the character’s lives, and all of their secrets. I always wanted to read the series to see how it held up, and I finally had the chance to read the first book.

Reading this book was like watching an episode of Pretty Little Liars in the best way. I loved these characters on-screen and they are just as compelling on the page. There are enough differences between the two to make it a completely new experience; even though I know what happens on the show, the books tell the story differently. The writing is especially sharp and witty, another hallmark of this series. Sometimes when books pivot between multiple characters it isn’t the greatest reading experience, but this balances the four rotating perspectives nicely.

I can tell this is going to be a good series for me to turn to when I’m stuck in a reading rut, which is how I came to start this first book. It was an easy read, a compelling story and just fun all around. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series at some point.
