As we enter a new month, quite a few things have been on my mind lately. Some thoughts below, and in no particular order, as I sip my coffee on this early November morning…
- Why is NaNoWriMo in November? I understand that November is National Novel Writing Month but this is truly the absolute worst time of year to impose such a task on the writers of the world. Is it the perfect time of year to cozy up and read or do free writing? Sure. But expecting people to buckle down at one of the busiest times of the year (holidays, elections, etc.) is just so unrealistic. (It also irks me that the official NaNoWriMo site is constantly asking for donations.) Solution: change it from November to June. In the summertime things slow down considerably. At least for me, I have always gotten my best writing done in late spring/summer. Anyone else? Once again, I am not participating in NaNoWriMo this year. I will personally declare November to be a time for novel writing prep, but I am relieving myself of the expectation that it will go any further than that.
- I have no idea of what to read next. I am always reading a non-fiction e-book on some topic or other, but as far as novels I truly have no clue of what to read next. This what always happens when I come off an exceptional read like Lethal White. Nothing can compare, so I don’t even know where to look next. Hopefully I can decide on something soon.
- The year is almost over. I can’t begin to wrap my mind around this. While I don’t yet feel any pressure per se to “get things done” before the end of the year, I do feel a sense of “light at the end of the tunnel” with knowing my semester will be over in a few short weeks. This has been the most difficult one yet, which was my own fault in planning, but everything will be finished soon.
- I would love to spend some time reorganizing my blog and possibly giving this site an entire makeover. However, the last time I did that was when I wasn’t in school and had oodles of time on my hands. I’m thinking that since revamping a blog is no small feat, it’s going to have to wait until I can give it the time and attention it truly deserves; which means, waiting until next spring when I finish my graduate degree. Until then, I can at least save ideas and images on Pinterest for inspiration.
