Mindfulness Tip for Centering Yourself

This month’s mindfulness tip will help you center yourself and be “in the now.”

Standing Starfish

It’s exactly what it sounds like. You know what you’ve got the bed to yourself and you somehow end up star-fishing right in the middle because it feels oh-so-good to stretch out? Yep, that’s what you’ll be doing here.

  1. Stand with your feet apart as though you’re going to do some jumping jacks (but don’t do those – this isn’t about cardio.)
  2. Breathe in deeply, and as you do raise your arms to form a t-shape with your palms facing down
  3. Hold the pose for 5 breaths

I love how confidence building and empowering this pose makes you feel. It also does wonderful things for strengthening your core muscles, back and legs.

What I like the most about this technique is that it’s not an emergency mindfulness technique – you can do this when you are already feeling calm and ready to tap into your center.

Other tips I’ve shared on the blog are definitely more geared towards anxiety-heavy days and racing thoughts. This one is decidedly more chill and can be done as a part of your daily routine.
