3 All-Natural Skincare Treatments

Why All-Natural?

The short answer…because nothing else seems to be working! I know I’m not the only one out there getting a teensy bit frustrated by the fact that none of the products I’ve been buying seem to be working. My skin is quite sensitive, and I was getting paranoid that I was aggravating it more than necessary with the constant change-up of products, leading to more acne, more frustration…grrrr.

Over the last couple of weeknights, before starting my nightly routine, I decided to test out some all-natural treatments I found online. There are a lot of recipes out there, and I am by no means saying that this is the best way to go about testing natural acne treatments. You know yourself, and your body, best!

Here are the three treatments that I tried over the course of two weeks:

Honey & Cinnamon Mask

This is as simple as it sounds: mix one teaspoon of cinnamon with two tablespoons of honey, stir into a paste and apply to problem spots. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and then wash off gently.

The combination of honey and cinnamon works as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Note: you WILL look like that kid from Matilda who ate all the cake (!) but it washes off a lot easier than you might think! While it isn’t proven to treat acne, I will tell you that it dramatically decreased the redness in my problem areas, hence why I am recommending it as my number one choice.

Green Tea Bags

I have heard of this treatment a lot but never tried it until recently. You don’t need me to tell you that green tea is a serious antioxidant, making it the perfect secret weapon to fight acne, right?

Here’s how it goes: steep the tea for 3-4 minutes, and allow it to cool. Dip a cotton ball into the tea and apply to affected areas OR pour it into a spray bottle and use as a mist. Let dry. Like the cinnamon-honey mask, I saw results for this pretty quickly. It took away the redness within minutes, and I loved how light and gentle it was.

Tea Tree Oil

Similar to the green tea treatment, I have heard good things about using tea tree oil for spot treatments. Tea tree oil is known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Count me in! The steps for this one have to be followed very carefully…

  1. Mix one part tea tree oil with 9 parts water
  2. Dip a cottontail into the mixture and apply to affected areas
  3. Apply 1-3 times per day as needed

Tea tree oil is strong so it’s super important to make sure it’s properly diluted before using. Overall this one worked pretty well for me as far as calming my skin, but the scent was a little to strong for me personally.

I don’t think I will be buying any name-brand acne treatments any time soon, at least not as long as these all natural ones are working so well for me! And of course, there’s always ‘ol faithful to fall back on 😉
