For my December Favorites, I thought it would be a fun idea to roundup some of my favorite things, and posts, not just from this month but from this entire year. Beauty, books, health, mindfulness, and everything in between ~ 2017 was a big year! We have a lot to get through, so let’s get started…
Top 5 Favorite Books of 2017
Honorable mentions include: Me Before You, After You, Anne of Green Gables, and The Innovators. Additionally, I re-read a huge chunk of the Shopaholic books this year. Although I didn’t post any reviews, these books are near and dear to my heart because they are entertaining and fun, and Becky Bloomwood is such a fun character to re-visit every few years.
Top 5 Beauty Products of 2017
- Colour Pop eyebrow brush (from an ipsy bag this past year)
- Bare Minerals Stroke of Light aka the best under-eye highlighter ever
- Rose Salve, a classic lip balm now in a squeezable tube
- it Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores, a lifesaver
- Maybelline Great Lash, another classic and one of my top mascaras
Most of these products were new discoveries thanks to my ipsy bag subscription, others are trusty ‘ol reliables I have been toting around for years. What are your beauty favorites and go-to’s?
Top 5 Skincare Products of 2017
My skincare favorites this year were all brand-new products I discovered in 2017. If I had to recommend one to you readers, it would be Aveeno Positively Radiant in-shower face wash, since good skin starts with a good skin-care regime! Having a great moisturizer, eye cream and overnight sleep mask doesn’t hurt either!
- Clinique Moisture Surge
- Context All Day Eye Cream
- Lancome Overnight Sleep Mask
- Aveeno Positively Radiant Shower Facial
- Pacifica Berry Happy Cleansing Wipes
Home Again was one of my favorite movies that came out this year. If you enjoyed any of Nancy Meyer’s past movies (The Holiday, It’s Complicated) then you will surely love her daughter, Hallie Meyers-Shyer, directorial debut! It was such a fun movie and I’d highly recommend it.
I also really loved Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which we got to see on Christmas Day! It was honestly better than I had anticipated it was going to see, and I am really excited to see what’s in store for the rest of the series.
This year I was especially happy to have had the chance to talk about meditation, affirmations, and self-care on the blog. I really believe we can all benefit from daily, or at least weekly, meditations sessions. Have you tried it out, and did it make a difference in your life? I’m excited to focus a little more on meditation and mindfulness next year with lots of new posts and new topics planned. If there’s anything in particular you want me to cover, feel free to let me know in the comments.
This was such a good year for music! I started using Spotify full-time, and that definitely helped me discover more music. (p.s. did you know if you’re a student you can get discount on a Spotify subscription?) Here are my top five albums (courtesy of my top songs of 2017 playlist).
Taylor Swift, Reputation; N.E.R.D., John Mayer, The Search for Everything; Haim, Something to Tell You; Ed Sheeran, Divide.
In September, I did a weekly series on time management, goal planning and clearing-clutter. I also shared my workspace and how I stay organized. I love how September feels like a new beginning, whether or not you’re starting school or a new semester in college. It’s nice to know we can “start over” again in the fall, isn’t it? I have a huge organization DIY post planned for January, so stay tuned!
A big highlight of 2017 was visiting the Pioneer Woman’s Mercantile Store. It was so fun to see the Merc in person, and visit the beautiful city of Pawhuska. I’m hoping to do a little more traveling next year, to places other than Disneyland again 😉
Thank you to all the new followers who have joined in the last year! It means so much to me to have you here. Even though this blog is running on almost three years old, this was the first year I really took on blogging as more than just a once-in-a-while activity. It was thrilling to expand Words for Everything into something so much more than what it was originally. My layouts have changed, my blog topics have evolved considerably, and my branding will be changing in 2018, too.
Feel free to comment and chime in with suggestions and feedback. What do you like? What would you like to see more of? Less of? I promise you won’t hurt my feelings! 😉
