July Favorites

Welcome to July Favorites! For new readers, first of all welcome and thank you for joining! This is where I wrap up a few things from the month that caught my eye, made me think, inspired me, or all of the above. My Favorites usually consists of articles, photography, books, foods, products or quotes. Thank you so much for reading 🙂

Elle Magazine ~ July

I knew I would like this issue of Elle when I saw that Kate McKinnon was on the cover. I didn’t know I was going to love it once I got my hands on a copy and saw the amazing articles featured this month. Including, a piece on Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co., and a piece on Maggie Haberman, a political journalist whose work I have been following for months now; watch her shut it down on CNN on any given night and you will be nothing short of impressed. Be sure to read the piece on female comics, too, because there are some lovely ladies highlighted that deserve some recognition! McKinnon’s interview was conduced by Tina Fey, so obviously you can’t miss that either.

This photo series from the New York Times is stunning. Beautiful, fascinating, somewhat haunting, and watch how the fashion styles change from year to year!

Nat Geo Orca Whale Photos

Orca whales, also known as killer whale, are actually members of the dolphin family, despite their name. They are among the worlds top predators, hence the name killer whales. (So why do we hole them up in captivity and starve them to do ‘tricks’ for food, interbreed them and deprive them of their natural habitats? Another story for another time). In the mean time, please enjoy National Geographic’s stunning photos of these beautiful creatures. Looking at these photos gives me such a sense of calm and tranquility.

Happier In Hollywood

Remember Gretchen Rubin’s podcast called Happier? She cohosts with her sister, Elizabeth, who now has her own podcast called Happier in Hollywood, “A podcast about how to be happier, healthier, saner, more creative, more successful, and more productive in a back-biting, superficial, chaotic, unpredictable, and fundamentally insane world.” Liz (as she is known on her podcast) and her writing partner Sara share the most funny and surprisingly poignant stories and tips about how to survive in Hollywood (and life in general) and I have been listening to this podcast nonstop over the past few weeks trying to catch up. They are a perfect pair and so funny, though NSFW, FYI 🙂

Ruth B.

Ruth B.’s album Safe Haven is bliss! A Canadian singer-songwriter, she composed all of the songs on Safe Haven herself. I’m calling it right now, but she is going to be one to watch for. Listen to “Lost Boy” and “Dandelions” 🙂

Seal Beach

We took a really (really) quick trip to LA this month and went super out of our way to visit Seal Beach, my favorite place on earth besides my bed 🙂 The sunset was too good, the water was too warm, I didn’t want to leave! S/O to Seal Beach for being the best beach on earth.

Prince George. Princess Charlotte. Helicopter rides. Handshakes and curtsies. Birthday portraits. Smiles and sleepy faces. The photos of these two on a recent trip abroad are the cutest things on earth and it’s all on the Kensington Palace Insta! And Prince George’s fourth birthday portrait is too cute! This is still my favorite picture of him though.
